Simon Cairns

Role: (Trustee) Treasurer

Simon has two sons at Bruern Abbey and has been a trustee since December 2022.

“Our twin boys had a bumpy start to their education. The outstanding teachers at Bruern have been able to see and capitalise on our boys’ innate love of learning, despite the many challenges the nature of traditional education poses to neurodiverse children like ours. Our sons have felt safe, respected and appreciated from the day they arrived at Bruern over four years ago. As parents, we have found a supportive community, passionate about championing boys who might otherwise tragically and unnecessarily flounder in education, and life.”

Simon is a fund manager specialising in social impact focused real estate investment strategies. Most recently, and particularly motivated by experiences with his own children, Simon set up and fully invested a housing development fund to create purpose-designed and built housing to enable young adults with learning disabilities or mental health care needs to live independently in their own community.  The fund’s largest investor, The Church Commissioners of England, used their participation in this fund to apply and win “Best Alternative Strategy” at the May 2024 IPE Global Real Estate Awards.

As a Trustee, Simon is responsible for finance and financial reporting.
